It rises to a height of 1035 meters above sea level, making it the highest situated castle ruin in the Czech Republic. This Gothic fortress, also known as Vítkův hrádek or, in German, Wittigstein, can be found on a wooded peak on the right bank of the Lipno Reservoir in the Český Krumlov district. The medieval seat, towering above the settlement of Svatý Tomáš, approximately five kilometers from Přední Výtoň, was founded in the thirteenth century by the Vítkovci family. Due to its extraordinary historical value, the entire complex has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958. Since 1990, this property has been owned and administered by the municipality of Přední Výtoň. From the viewing platform on the preserved residential tower, visitors today are offered a breathtaking panoramic view of the Šumava, Lipno, and, on clear days, even the peaks of the Austrian Alps.
