The ruins of the medieval seat rising above the left bank of the Kozský Brook in the Tábor District are inherently linked with the life and work of the preacher Master Jan Hus. Right here, in the quiet of the forest near Sezimovo Ústí, the famous church reformer found his refuge between 1412 and 1414 and wrote some of his key works. The remains of this Gothic castle, referred to in German sources as Ziegenburg, are spread over a rocky promontory at an altitude of approximately 405 meters. The extraordinary historical significance of the site led to the area being declared a national cultural monument on March 30, 1962, while it gained the status of a regular cultural monument in 1963. Since 1991, this ruin, lying about two and a half kilometers east of the town, has been managed directly by Sezimovo Ústí, which is its current owner.
