The Gothic fortress was founded in 1355 by the Lords of Rosenberg with the consent of Charles IV, and covering an area of 1.27 hectares, it ranks among the largest ruins in the Czech Republic. A major Late Gothic reconstruction between 1477 and 1483 gave the site the form of a massive defensive system, whose walls still surround the vast courtyard today. The fifteen-meter cylindrical tower offers an unobstructed circular view of the surrounding countryside. The well-maintained grounds, which are a protected cultural monument owned by the town of Bavorov, provide visitors with facilities including refreshments and restrooms. A unique tramping atmosphere is completed by a fireplace with prepared firewood and the option, by prior arrangement, to spend the night under your own shelter right among the ancient walls.
