Vartnov Castle, probably founded by the Lords of Warta in the fourteenth century, was first mentioned in writing in 1377 during the division of the Duchy of Opava. It was a small water castle, acting as a boundary between a castle and a stronghold, surrounded by water moats. During the Bohemian-Hungarian Wars in 1474, it was conquered by the army of Matthias Corvinus and burned down, after which it was never rebuilt. Today, only insignificant remains of low walls, a brick cistern, and an arched portal can be seen on the site. The area is freely accessible and offers a peaceful atmosphere of a vanished medieval residence, ideal for history and nature lovers.
