This unique complex, right next to the historic center, represents an exceptional transition between a defensive castle and a representative chateau. Its grand appearance is the work of the Pernštejn family, who built a residence here that has no equal in Central Europe in terms of its size and degree of preservation. The entire complex, which is connected to the town by the picturesque area of Příhrádek, is protected as a national cultural monument, including its massive fortifications. Today, the premises serve as the cultural center of the entire region. Visitors can admire the rich exhibitions of the East Bohemian Museum and view works of art in the East Bohemian Gallery.
