The chateau complex in Ostrov, near Karlovy Vary, has a rich history, dating back to the reconstruction of an older Schlick residence after the Thirty Years' War. It acquired its current, predominantly Classicist appearance at the end of the eighteenth century and through subsequent modifications. However, the place also remembers a dark period, as a concentration camp operated here during the Second World War. Today, an extensive complex of several buildings unfolds before you, followed by an eleven-hectare chateau park with a charming summer house and other architectural elements. After a sensitive reconstruction between 2012 and 2014, the entire complex serves the public, hosting the town hall, a library, and exhibition spaces. It is a place where history intertwines with modern life, ideal for a peaceful stroll and discovering local culture.
