The fortress was founded in the first half of the 14th century by the Lords of Biberštejn to protect the trade route to Zittau, local mines, and an iron hammer mill. The castle's fate was sealed when it was conquered by the Hussites in 1433, and by 1558, historical sources already described it as deserted. Today, in the forested nature reserve, you will discover the remnants of the outer walls, the foundations of two towers, and fragments of residential buildings. The site retains the raw character of a medieval watch outpost, enhanced by steep cliffs dropping down to the river. Moreover, your visit to the monument can be made even more exciting by crossing the Lusatian Neisse using the only transborder in the Czech Republic.
