The residence, founded in the 13th century by the Lords of Donín, underwent a significant transformation in the 16th century into a representative Renaissance chateau. Although the state-owned monument fell into severe disrepair during the second half of the 20th century, thanks to extensive and sensitive reconstruction after 1989, its original dignity was restored, and it has been welcoming visitors again since 1992. Today, you can view historical interiors furnished with original furniture, dark Gothic cellars, and a unique museum of military field veterinary kits. The Chapel of Saint Barbara has exceptional artistic value, with its painted decoration representing a prime example of the Renaissance in Bohemia. The tour experience is completed by climbing the castle tower, which provides a wide view of the borderlands of the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland.
