The originally medieval castle in Znojmo underwent a significant transformation over the centuries. Its current appearance is primarily the result of extensive Baroque modifications that took place in the eighteenth century. These reconstructions transformed the original fortress into an elegant chateau that now dominates the city. The entire chateau complex is carefully protected as an important cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
