This magnificent castle complex near Litoměřice was commissioned at the beginning of the eighteenth century by Duchess Anna Marie Františka of Tuscany, who had it built in the immediate vicinity of the original manor seat. More than a hundred years later, the estate was acquired by the Habsburg dynasty, which turned it into a representative summer residence for the abdicated Emperor Ferdinand the First. Today, the entire complex is protected as a national cultural monument for its extraordinary value, under the administration of the National Heritage Institute. The local park furthermore represents a site of European importance, providing a haven for the rare hermit beetle. Visitors here can admire the harmonious blend of historic architecture and the surrounding countryside.
