Not far from České Budějovice, Hluboká Castle majestically rises, one of the most beautiful and most visited monuments in the Czech Republic. This national cultural monument, owned by the state since 1947, is today carefully managed by the National Heritage Institute. Besides the castle's architecture itself, visitors are also attracted by the extensive ornamental gardens and a magnificent English park, whose northeastern part is part of the important European site of Hlubocká hráz. The former castle riding hall houses the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery, which presents a valuable collection of sculptures and works by Dutch and Flemish masters of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The castle thus offers a unique combination of historical elegance, artistic treasures, and natural beauty.
