This residence was built between 1575 and 1585 by Jan Šembera Černohorský of Boskovice, based on a design by Jacopo Strada. The heart of the complex is a spacious courtyard lined on three sides by arcades supported by 96 columns. In its center stands a richly decorated stone fountain, which is one of the most valuable Mannerist works in Central Europe. Inside, the detailed stucco decoration of the Imperial Room and the unusual frescoes in the Hare Hall stand out. The fortress-like character of the building, thanks to which the chateau successfully defended itself against Swedish troops in 1645, is harmoniously complemented by a vast Renaissance garden.
