Originally a defensive fortress and administrative center with hunting rights, it has stood atop a hill 522 meters above sea level since the first half of the 13th century. Throughout its existence, this complex was never fully conquered, making it an exceptional example of medieval military architecture. Today, the interiors map the development of living culture from the 15th to the 19th centuries, offering a glimpse into a rich armory, library, and family gallery. Thanks to the last owners from the Berchtold family, you can also view unusual natural science and Egyptological collections, dominated by a real mummy. In the courtyard, the so-called Lime Tree of Innocence still grows today, which, according to an old legend, saved the life of an unjustly condemned squire.
