Charles the Fourth had the castle on Radyně Hill built even before the year 1361, and it originally bore the name Karlskrone. It served as the seat of a burgrave and was intended to protect nearby Starý Plzenec as well as the roads leading through the region. During the Hussite Wars, it became a stronghold for the Catholic nobility, and in the following decades, several noble families, including the Šternberks and the Kokořovcs, took turns owning it. A fire at the beginning of the sixteenth century proved fatal for the castle, after which Radyně became a permanently abandoned ruin. Today, it is freely accessible, managed by the municipality of Starý Plzenec, and in 2026, it even gained its own castellan. A square tower has been preserved, which can be climbed as a lookout tower offering views of the Pilsen basin, along with remnants of the palace and fortifications with loopholes.
