A prominent lydite crag rising above the village of the same name near Blovice bears the remains of a medieval aristocratic residence that once played a significant role in the history of the Czech state. It was right here in the fifteenth century that the so-called Treaty of Vlčtejn was signed, sealing the peace between the future King George of Poděbrady and his opponents from the Strakonice Union. Today, you can view the torso of the palace with its preserved window openings and the remnants of the fortifications, which adapted to the rugged rocky terrain. Below the castle grounds, there is also a younger Classicist chateau, which completes the historical character of the entire site. This picturesque ruin, listed as one of our cultural monuments, invites visitors for a peaceful walk and views of the surrounding West Bohemian landscape.
