The remnants of a once significant watchtower seat are located on the northern spur of Mount Hraničář near Nýrsko, and have enjoyed monument protection since 1964. The castle was founded in the first half of the fourteenth century by the Lords of Janovice, in whose possession the property remained until the beginning of the sixteenth century. During the Hussite unrest, Jan of Janovice resided here, who became famous for his pragmatic switching of sides between the Hussites and the Catholics. The castle suffered a heavy blow in 1479, when it was captured and burned down by the Bavarian army. Although in 1512 the new owner, Jindřich Kostomlatský of Vřesovice, attempted a partial restoration of the already ruined seat, after his death the castle definitively fell into decay. Today, all that remains of this historical fortress is a picturesque ruin, dominated even after centuries by the torso of a massive residential tower.
