Olomouc Castle, rising on Wenceslas Hill in the historical center of Olomouc, is a place with a rich history dating back to the Great Moravian fortified settlement. It originally served as the seat of the Olomouc appanage princes and bishops, with the first written mention coming from Cosmas's Chronicle from the year 1055. The complex sadly gained notoriety in 1306, when the last Přemyslid king, Wenceslas the Third, was murdered here, which marked the end of the Přemyslid dynasty in the male line. Today, the castle complex is managed by the Archdiocesan Museum, which presents valuable art collections and the Romanesque Zdík's Palace with unique wall paintings within its premises. Visitors can admire the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Wenceslas, the remains of the Romanesque palace, and other ecclesiastical buildings that have transformed into a sacred complex over the centuries.
