This monumental fortress, referred to in German sources as Eulenburg, rises in the landscape of the Nízký Jeseník mountains, roughly fourteen kilometers south of Rýmařov towards Uničov. The founding of the castle dates back to the first third of the fourteenth century, and in the following centuries, it underwent late Gothic and Renaissance expansions. A significant transformation was brought about by the early Baroque reconstruction, during which massive fortifications were built here between 1632 and 1643. Despite devastating fires in 1784 and 1945, the complex has retained its extraordinary value and has been protected as a cultural monument since 1963. Since 2017, the castellan Michal Koutný has been in charge of the administration and development of the entire complex.
