Not far from Dubá, in a picturesque landscape, rises the Renaissance Chateau Nový Berštejn, whose foundations were laid in the sixteenth century by Adam Berka of Dubá, a descendant of the powerful Ronovci family. Its original Renaissance appearance was replaced by Baroque alterations under the Buttler and Sweerts-Špork families at the beginning of the eighteenth century, which also included the chateau park, and the chateau acquired its final pseudo-Baroque look at the end of the nineteenth century under the Wallensteins. Among the many owners who succeeded each other on the estate, the name of Albrecht of Wallenstein stands out, one of the most famous noblemen in Czech history. After a period when it served as a boarding school and subsequently lay abandoned for years, the chateau was saved. Thanks to costly reconstruction in the 1990s, Nový Berštejn has today been transformed into a luxury hotel, offering guests the unique atmosphere of a historic residence. The entire property is protected as a significant cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
