Originally a Gothic fortress from the thirteenth century, it underwent a Renaissance reconstruction at the end of the sixteenth century. The chateau acquired its current late Baroque appearance between 1762 and 1765 under the leadership of Count Kristián Clam-Gallas. After extensive reconstruction, the chateau was reopened to the public in 2000 and today offers 14 fully furnished chambers. Visitors here can admire preserved Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque frescoes, Rococo stuccoes, and a unique collection of weapons belonging to the Knights of Malta. The chateau complex also includes a vast four-hectare park with dendrologically interesting trees. The entire Dětenice resort further includes a medieval tavern, a hotel, and the chateau brewery, which create a unique experiential atmosphere.
