The castle was founded at the beginning of the 14th century by the Lords of Valečov, who chose sandstone rock blocks on the edge of Bohemian Paradise as the basis for their fortifications. During the Hussite Wars, it became a stronghold for Žižka's followers, which led to its capture and burning in 1439 by the army of Henry of Vartenberk. After its reconstruction in stone, the estate also came into the hands of the powerful Wallenstein family, but by the mid-17th century, it was already described as desolate and unused. To this day, remnants of the so-called old and new palaces, situated on rock terraces, have been preserved, as well as a number of chambers carved directly into the rock, where the garrison resided during the Hussite era. Since 1994, the municipality of Boseň has taken care of the ruin, making the castle accessible to the public and a popular destination for tourists heading along marked trails into the heart of Bohemian Paradise.
