Villa Tugendhat is one of the masterpieces of world interwar modern architecture. It was designed by the German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the Tugendhats and completed in 1930. It is famous for its open-plan living space divided only by an onyx wall and a Macassar ebony wall, large retractable windows, and the technical innovations of its time. Since 2001, it has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Following a meticulous restoration, it is open to the public for guided tours and remains a symbol of the motto "less is more".
