On a sandstone rock above the right bank of the Jizera River, a small fortress was established in the early 1420s. It is first documented in the years 1422 and 1425 in the possession of the Waldstein family. Under Heníček's son, in the mid-fifteenth century, it became a stronghold of Hussitism in the region and experienced its greatest boom. However, after 1538, its owners lost interest, and it fell into disrepair during the sixteenth century. A significant turning point came in 1802, when the estate was purchased by textile entrepreneur František Zachariáš Römisch, who established a pantheon on the site with memorials, urns, and commemorative plaques to important personalities, as well as a summer house on the foundations of the former chapel. Today, Vranov is owned by the municipality of Malá Skála and is among the most visited places in the Malá Skála region. The tour route leads along staircases carved into the rock, past niches, cellars, and terraces with views of the Jizera River valley, making it a popular destination for families and lovers of rock towns alike.
