These massive ramparts, rising on a rocky promontory above the Rakovnický stream near its confluence with the Berounka River, recall the glorious era of Czech princes and kings. This former royal residence, known in German as Pürglitz, belongs to the oldest surviving medieval fortresses in our territory. Today, this historical gem is owned by the Czech Republic, and its gates are open to the public. The extraordinary significance of the entire complex is attested by its heritage protection, which began in 1965 and culminated in 1989 with its inclusion on the list of national cultural monuments. The daily operation and administration of this monument in the Rakovník district is managed by the National Heritage Institute.
