This originally Gothic castle from the thirteenth century, situated in the valley of the Zákolanský Stream, passed through the hands of ecclesiastical dignitaries, wealthy Prague burghers, and nobility over the centuries. A significant reconstruction in the fourteenth century transformed it into one of the most magnificent noble residences in Bohemia, while the later development of warfare also necessitated the construction of massive outer fortifications with artillery bastions. In the seventeenth century, the Jesuits acquired the complex, who adapted it in Baroque style as their summer residence. However, after the dissolution of their order, the structure began to serve as a cheap source of stone for the surrounding area, which led to its rapid dismantling. Today, this protected cultural monument offers a unique atmosphere with preserved Renaissance elements and the remains of the monumental castle core.
