Originally a medieval castle, Mělník rises on a strategic hill high above the Elbe River. Its imposing silhouette is one of the most prominent landmarks of the entire town of Mělník. The chateau's current appearance is primarily the result of an extensive Baroque reconstruction, which gave it its present form. Subsequent modifications then completed its architectural character. Thanks to its historical and architectural value, Mělník Chateau is carefully protected as a significant cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
