The monumental silhouette of this medieval fortress rises on a rocky promontory above a meander of the Sázava River, in the territory of the town of the same name in the Benešov district. This originally Gothic castle, later magnificently rebuilt as a château, can be found on the left bank of the river at an altitude of around three hundred fifty meters, just a short distance from the D1 motorway. The seat, founded as early as the thirteenth century, is unique in that it remains to this day in the hands of its founders, the noble Šternberk family. The entire historic complex is protected as a cultural monument and, since 2008, has been included among our national cultural monuments. During the tour, you can admire the lavish Baroque interiors with rich stucco decoration, the family portrait gallery, or the unique collection of copper engravings from the period of the Thirty Years' War.
